    About The Work

The work of Surrealist Meret Oppenheim was often rooted in obscure and abstract talisman—icons that she created to evoke the beauty and mystery of femininity. Often sexually suggestive, Oppenheim’s pieces incorporated various juxtapositions of shape, texture and purpose, drawing attention to both the familiar and unfamiliar elements of a particular symbol. In this intimate sculpture, an obscure shell-like form is rendered in warm bronze, referencing the curves of the ancient goddess Venus.
