Michael Zelehoski

Michael Zelehoski deconstructs three-dimensional objects like discarded wood and police barricades into two-dimensional pictorial space. He creatively manipulates positive and negative space to generate an optical illusion where the objects are abstracted but still reference a utilitarian past. Zelehoski hopes to change the viewer’s relationship to the physical world as a reaction to the proliferation of virtual space.

Michael Zelehoski’s work has been shown in group and solo shows, including North American Cultural Institute, Santiago, Chile, Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, Pittsfield, MA, Berkshire Museum, Pittsfield, MA, and Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, Peekskill, NY.  He has received numerous awards and fellowships, including the Assets for Artists Development Grant and Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship.
