    About The Work

Though artist Michael Wolf has appropriated photographs from Google Street View to create this work, it nonetheless has clear art-historical precedent. Here, the picture of an embracing couple at the center of the composition recalls Robert Doisneau’s famous photograph, Le baiser de l'hôtel de ville (The Kiss) of 1950, one of the most iconic photographs of 20th-century Paris. Wolf’s Paris Street View, however, which was produced in a limited edition of 25, offsets this romantic imagery with disparate Internet photos—a solitary smoker to the left and an aggressive motorist to the right.
