Mrzyk & Moriceau

Petra Mrzyk and Jean-François Moriceau are primarily known for their precise black-and-white ink drawings which alternate between the perverse and the playful. Borrowing and distorting conventions from commercial illustration and imagery from popular culture, the collaborative duo create simple, well-articulated drawings that behold a unique aesthetic of wit and absurdity. Throughout their work, playfully illustrated human body parts take on full human personalities; inanimate objects come to life; and everything is underscored with a whimsical, yet dark humor.

Petra Mrzyk and Jean-François Moriceau have been working collaboratively since 1998. They have had solo exhibitions at Air de Paris (2012, 2008, 2004), Caixa Forum in Barcelona (2008), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2006), Mamco in Geneva (2004), and Schnitt Ausstellungsraum in Cologne (2001). Their work has exhibited internationally in many group exhibitions, and they have produced music videos for Air, Sebastian Tellier, and others.
