    About The Work

This pair of cans preserves the smiles of the artist and his son and daughter (the former smiled into the “Jamaican Smiles" can while the latter smiled into the “Black Smiles” can). The label “Made in Jamaica / Made in America” refers to the artist’s double identity and to the classification of people according to their origin. Here, Ward references Piero Manzoni’s “Artist Shit” project as he calls into question the notion of faith in the artist vision and production.
