About The Work
Bold, irreverent, and at times sardonic, the work of Nate Lowman pulls from various styles and mediums including collage, graffiti and photography. Re-appropriating and branding images like bullet holes and smiley faces, Lowman delves into themes of association, object and visual symbology. In this edition for The Chinati Foundation, Swiss Cheese for Chinati, Lowman creates a play on his infamous bullet holes with a block of Swiss cheese. Using a color process and paper perforations, the artist created a series of 100 unique prints, each a slight variation on this richly textured image.
