Omar Barquet
In Omar Barquet’s recent work, he has developed a method of research which proposes various possibilities of perception and interaction between space, time, landscape, sound and memory. These concepts serve as a flexible base where they articulate different projects that allow me to explore diverse processes and means of representation. He wants to make visible these interests in the outcome of the work and gradually adjust, the various creative links. This generates, dynamical collaborations.
Omar Barquet has received numerous awards including the Young Artists Fellowship in painting and printmaking from FONCA, Mexico, the Museum Carillo Gil & Bancomer Arte Actual Grant, a 2009 artist-in-residency awarded at CAPACETE in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and in 2014 he was selected for the XV Tamayo Museum’s Painting Biennial. During his career Barquet established the Second Floor Art Collective and currently acts as the Project Coordinator for Re Cover, a Mexico City music and art festival. His work has been shown in national and international museums and galleries including solo shows at the Mandragoras Art Space, New York, the Museo Experimental El Eco, Mexico City, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Mérida, and the Kunsthalle Sao Paulo, Christinger De Mayo Gallery, Zúrich, amongst others.
