About The Work
Iconic English artist and designer Peter Saville’s bold album cover work defined the aesthetic of Factory Records, and some of the most influential punk and rock groups of all time. Combining modernist symbolism with coding systems and classical reference, Saville’s graphic work pervaded all aspects of visual culture, from music and art to fashion and advertising. This three-dimensional resin work Unknown Pleasures is a continuation of Saville’s iconic design for the cover of Joy Division’s 1979 debut album. The symbolic image was taken from the Cambridge Encyclopedia of Astronomy and depicts “a comparative path demonstration of the frequency of a signal from a pulsar (pulsating star)."
