Ragna Róbertsdóttir

Ragna Róbertsdóttir is known for her minimalist wall paintings made out of ground lava stones, broken glass, shell fragments, and chips of neon plastic. These tiny shrapnel-like materials are applied directly to the gallery wall, seamlessly merging nature and architecture. Many of Róbertsdóttir's works incorporate volcanic rocks, a nod to Iceland's rugged and volatile landscape. Like land artists Walter De Maria, Robert Smithson, and Michael Heizer, Róbertsdóttir marries a minimalist aesthetic with a reverence for nature. Unlike her American counterparts, however, Róbertsdóttir's work is decidedly modest in scale. An established superstar in her native Iceland, Róbertsdótti has also exhibited around the world, including the Hamish Morrison Galerie in Berlin, the Chinese European Art Center in Xiamen, and the New Bedford Art Museum in Massachusetts.
