Rieko Hotta

Rieko Hotta is primarily an abstract painter who also creates installation and object-based work. The dominant concern of her painting is texture, visual effect, and pattern. Working on canvas, cotton, or glass, she applies paint to transform the surface of the work into a relief sculpture. There is no focal point to these alluring compositions. The viewer scans the work for something to latch onto but instead absorbs and experiences the tactile nature of her practice.

Hotta’s work has been exhibited worldwide at Kunstfabrik HB55, Berlin, Germany, Paolo Erbetta Gallery, Berlin, Germany, Ophthalmologist Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, and Void+, Tokyo, Japan.
