Robert Brady
The work of prolific sculptor Robert Brady was first influenced by acclaimed ceramicist Robert Arneson, his mentor at the University of California Davis, and later developed into a unique style of vessel. The three dimensional work of artists Isamu Noguchi and Peter Voulkos also inspired Brady, however he was not inclined to create figurative work. His experiments with glaze, form and firing continued as he joined the art faculty of California State University in Sacramento in 1975. In the late 1970s, Brady’s figures became more abstract, inspired by questions of death and morality, often incorporating ritualistic totems or spiritual objects from various cultural traditions.
Brady has lectured and taught workshops nationally and internationally and was Professor of Art at California State University, Sacramento for 33 years. His works have been widely exhibited across the country, including Fresno Art Museum, Fresno, LewAllen Contemporary, Santa Fe, Braunstein/Quay Gallery, San Francisco, Katzen Arts Center, American University, Washington, D.C, Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, MA, Craft and Folk Art Museum, San Francisco, and Nevada Museum of Art, Reno. In 1989 a ten-year retrospective of Brady’s work was held at the Crocker Museum of Art in Sacramento. In 2008 he received the Aileen Osborn Webb Award …
