Roy Fowler
Roy Fowler’s paintings are inspired by the beachside culture of Santa Barbara where he was born and raised. Though his waves are turbulent, the atmosphere that his work evokes is bright and pleasant. He explains, “What I’ve been trying to do is transpose the watercolor compositions to oil without changing the feel or structure of the original,” and notes, “I like the oil paintings to comment on the originals. I have a style of collecting information in the watercolor--that’s become the subject of my work.” His works are informed by minimalist gestures and a stylised approach to beachside iconography, which explores patterns, balance of space, and the natural world.
Fowler has had solo exhibitions at Topaz Arts in New York, Patty Look Lewis Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA, Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, PA, Cedar Crest College, Tompkins Gallery in Allentown, PA, Reading Area Community College, Reading, PA, New Arts Program Inc in Kutztown, PA, The Bowery Poetry Project in New York, Cheryl Pelavin Gallery in New York, Theater Artaud in San Francisco, Art Resources Transfer Inc in New York, Project II, 155 Mercer Street in New York, Anne Plumb Gallery in New York.
