About The Work

Celebrated as a major leader of Pop art movement alongside contemporaries like Andy Warhol and James Rosenquist, Roy Lichtenstein is known for his bold, comic inspired style. Heavily influenced by conceptual artist Allen Kaprow, Lichtenstein used oil and Manga paint to create large, chromatic paintings that took from, and at times appropriated, comic books, modern art and advertisements. Utilizing Ben-Day dots, as well as text bubbles, inky black shadows and flat, two-dimensional perspective, Lichtenstein challenged perceptions of high and low art
