About The Work
This charming, deeply familiar photograph was inspired by a literary quote: in her mystery crime novel A is for Alibi, author Susan Grafton clearly describes the experience of entering a room and encountering the scents of Lemon Pledge and bourbon. Photographer Sally Gall subsequently responded to that passage with this inviting yet somewhat ominous image, wherein a gentle breeze enters through the curtains and the sun-soaked windows are crisply reflected in the polished wood table. So moving is Gall's imagery that the viewer too might begin to detect the unique smell of lemon cleaning solution and evening drink.
