Sarah Palmer

Capturing a memory and a moment in time, Sarah Palmer uses photography as a medium to explore identity. Layering images and objects to create spatial and textural tension, Palmer allows deliberate as well as accidental factors to make their mark, exposing the vulnerabilities of the medium. In her series As A Real House, Palmer plays with the still life genre, capturing bizarre, often incongruous groupings of objects and fragments. As the artist states, "the work itself is rooted in metaphor, meant to be interrogated, as one would read a poem." Palmer was the recipient of the 2011 Aperture Portfolio Prize and her work has been exhibited at venues including the Galerie für Moderne Fotografie in Berlin and the Center for Photography in Woodstock.
