Sári Ember

Using photography, collage, painting, and video, Sári Ember proposes imaginary scenarios where every object, every detail, and every color scheme is studied, analyzed, and recreated with great care, in order to present a picture of shrouded solemnity and transcendence. Her work hovers in an ambiguity between celebrating something and documenting it. She attempts to aestheticize the usual, showing and searching for the hidden and essential value of the objects she depicts. Ember’s work exists somewhere between honoring and showing the sheer banality of the subjects; moving between capturing and creating, between representing and externalizing.

Solo exhibitions of Ember’s work have been presented at Kunsthalle São Paulo, Contretype in Brussels, and in Budapest at Labor, Karton Gallery, and Lumen Gallery. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at São Paulo’s Museum of Image and Sound, Mai House Manó in Budapest, and Ludwig Museum in Budapest, among other venues.
