Susan Cantrick is a painter who came to the visual arts by way of music (B.A., Bennington College, M.M., Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University). In 1997, due to a chronic overuse injury, she left her career as a violinist to pursue intensive visual arts studies as the extension of an already deeply ingrained creative practice. During these formative years she had her first solo exhibition in Paris, and in 2002 she established her independent studio practice there. She was granted a winter residency at the Vermont Studio Center in 2004, and in 2007 she had her second solo show in Paris.  Since then she has shown regularly in solo and group exhibitions in both France and the U.S.  In September 2013 she received the Art Absolument prize at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, Paris.  Her most recent solo exhibition, entitled "Impure Situation(s)," at Le Pavé d'Orsay in Paris,  March 22-April 3, 2018, featured 15 works on canvas and paper.  Her work has been acquired by private collectors in France, the U.S., and Japan.  She is represented by Kathryn Markel (New York) and Ideelart (London).
