About The Work
This work from British artist Susie Hamilton is from a series entitled Hens, which depicts various ambiguous female clubgoers as shadows and silhouettes of color, contour and contrast. The artist says of the series, “In July 2014 when I went to Liverpool for the John Moores exhibition I saw groups of girls going out on a Saturday night, going down to clubs like Krazyhouse and Ruby Sky. And so began this series of works. I like transforming everyday figures into something startling or mysterious. And the Hen costumes of bunny ears and leggings and bopper head gear are combined with a painting style that distorts and abstracts the figure into something uncanny.”
