Svend-Allan Sørensen

The work of Danish artist Svend-Allan Sørensen is highly influenced by his background in graphic arts, hunting, and ornithology. Often incorporating taxidermy and birds into his playfully tongue-in-cheek works, Sørensen explores the harshly humorous relationship between culture and nature, re-contextualizing his own physical and metaphorical role as a hunter. His text pieces pull reference from writers like Henry David Thoreau, and phrases like “Absurd Blurred Bird,” and “Some birds and politicians try to walk on water. Some succeed,” reveal the philosophical nature of his witty practice.

Sørensen's works have been shown in a number of solo and group exhibitions in Denmark and abroad, including Museum Jorn, Silkeborg, Denmark, SPECTA, Copenhagen, Vendsyssel Art Museum, Hjørring, IB Cube Gallery, Ichinomiya, Japan and Oscarshall, Oslo, Norway. In 2014 Sørensen was the winner of the biannual Queen Sonja Nordic Art Award.
