Talon Gustafson

The work of artist Talon Gustafson explores the various aesthetics of the domestic environment, American interiors and the gender roles inherent. Influenced by his experience creating advertising campaigns for a corporate candy manufacture, Gustafson’s work is punctuated by dark humor, intention and energy. Says the artist of his subject matter, “We decorate our interiors to reflect our values and those decorations become an expression of our thoughts and lives. We attach personal significance to elements of pop culture, advertising, design, and bric-a-brac. Elements that exist outside of us, which we choose to make part of us. Cultural artifacts mesh with our ego creating a third identity that is unique unto itself.”

Gustafson is co-founder and writer for the online arts quarterly WOW HUH. He also owns and operates the apartment gallery Culture Room with Ashley Zangle. His work has been shown at NADA New York, Sadie Halie Projects, Brooklyn, The Bedfellow's Club, Chicago, Good Weather, North Little Rock, Arkansas, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Forum Gallery, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and The Waiting Room Gallery, Tokyo.
