Timothy Wehrle

The work of Iowan artist Timothy Wehrle involves layers of intricate pattern and color, often made up of miniscule repeated imagery—the same face or tiny body drawn over and over again. Exploring the complexities of contemporary culture, Wehrle’s conceptual material stems form a variety of sources, both historical and everyday. Navigating the space between lighthearted commentary and overt social criticism, the dream-like quality of his work often borders on psychedelic. Created using graphite, pencil, and homemade walnut ink, Wehrle’s process is intrinsically hands-on, reveling, as the artist has stated, in the “sweetness that has been missing in the world around me.” Wehrle has shown in a number of exhibitions, including at PPOW Gallery, New York, Cavin Morris Gallery, New York, Dieu Donne New York, and the Des Moines Art Center, Iowa.
