Todd Bienvenu

Todd Bienvenu works traditionally in oil on linen, but his subjects are timely. Possessing a vivid imagination, funny and intimate scenarios unfold out of an initially abstract surface—many scenes would cause his Southern mother to blush. Often making himself the butt of the joke, it is clear that no subject is off limits in his paintings. Cataloging his momentary surroundings as an artist, Bienvenu uses humor and sex to give the viewer an entry point. After the initial laugh, the sobriety and vulnerability of his work breaks through the rich bright surface.

Bienvenu’s recent exhibitions include Galerie Sebastien Bertrand, Geneva, Louis B. James, New York, NY, Cuevas Tilleard, New York, NY, Life on Mars, Brooklyn, NY, Páramo, Guadalajara, Mexico, and Steven Zevitas Gallery, Boston, MA.
