Tracy Molis

The silhouette-like work of Tracy Molis takes inspiration from ancient mythology and iconic moments in art history. Appearing like an image back-lit by a lantern, Molis’ acrylic paintings and drawings re-contextualize familiar images with her unique style—Ancient Gods and fantastic hybrid creatures are comprised of shadowy greys and white eyes. Her project OSg-OSz is inspired by an archive of four-by-five inch lantern slide negatives.

Molis’ recent solo exhibitions include Night Gallery, Los Angeles, Kai Matsumiya, New York. Group exhibitions include Joe Sheftel Gallery, New York, Jewish Museum, New York, Kijidome, Boston, Zwischen Raum Zeit, video collaboration with DAS, The Pitch Project, Milwaukee, and ReMap 4, Athens. Her work was selected to represent her city in the Bosch Young Talent show at Stedelijk Museum s' Hertogenbosch, Netherlands in 2011.
