Nick Darmstaedter

Nick Darmstaedter works with mixed media, sculpture, and printing to find ways that abstraction might be amplified by the fringed of the mainstream. The work appears simple and accessible in its reference to Pop art and Dada. He has channeled the tropes of hardcore album covers from the 1980s into hard-line oil paintings, and used the tactics of spamming to create simple and persistent readymades. Darmstaedter acknowledges the persistent recycling of past styles as well as the throw-away culture of art that eternally seeks “newness” and affirmation of an artist’s brand. His attachment to abstraction is almost Warholian, seeking to “restore itself with the language of its own past for the very purpose of moving forward into the new.” Darmstaedter has exhibited at T293, Rome, Zabludowicz Collection, London, Fondazione Museo Pino Polignano a Mare, Italy, and a number of other international galleries.
