Need a Dalí for Your Desk? Have a Surrealistic Time With This Fun Sculpture
Salvador Dalí’s crystal sculpture Dance of Time, 2016

Here’s what you need to know about Salvador Dalí’s crystal sculpture Dance of Time:

1. A veritable international art superstar, Salvador Dalí is remembered as much for his outlandish antics and statements to the press as for his contributions to Surrealism, the widely influential 20th century avant-garde art movement that mined the subconscious for irrational inspiration.

2. Dance of Time references the melting clocks of his classic 1931 painting The Persistence of Memory, which explores the artist’s ideas around the relativity of time with his characteristic combination of technical ability and dreamlike imagery.

3. While he’s most famous for his paintings, Dalí also experimented extensively with a variety of other media. This piece, for instance, comes out of of the artist’s collaboration with the French glassmaking company Daum, best known for their influence on the earlier Art Deco movement.

4. If you’re looking for something more elaborate, Daum is also offering a piece called Montre Molle (shown below), again recalling the Surrealist master’s iconic liquefying timepieces.
