"I haven't stoped thinking about what the next painting is," says Avery Singer says in Art21's newest video. Singer is known for her innovative approach to the canvas; she first renders illusionistic worlds and characters using SketchUp (3D modeling software generally used by architects and engineers) before projecting these scenes onto canvases to paint. "This approach, in addition to being strinkingly novel, captured a sense of alientation from a more 'natural', unaffected reality and is on that Singer has eagerly exploited since," writes Andrew Goldstein in Vitamin P3 , Phaidon's definitive survey on contemporary painting.

The video, which was released today, comes the first of 10 videos in Art21's Summer of Shorts series. Next Friday we'll share a short on Theaster Gates —so stay tuned.
