With the art world flocking to Art Los Angeles Contemporary this week to browse that fair's unusually strong roster of exhibitors this year, the city's spacious galleries threw open their doors to give the influx of collectors a taste of what Tinseltown has to offer. Meanwhile, a universe away in Gstaad, the curator Neville Wakefield and artist Olympia Scarry debuted a show called "Elevation 1049" that was funded by the Swiss megacollector Maja Hoffmann, bringing site-specific by Swiss artist like Olivier Mosset, Christian Marclay, Urs Fischer, Thomas Hirschhorn, Ugo Rondinone, and Olaf Breuning to the ski-chalet-pocked town. 

We were there too, as well as at other art attractions as diverse as the opening of eFlux's terrific new "Taiping Tianguo" exhibition of Chinese artists who lived in New York in the 1980s and early '90s, the quirky Nicholas Roerich Museum, and a last look at the season's exhibitions at SculptureCenter.
