Alex Pollard

Alex Pollard lives and works in Glasgow. He creates sculptures, paintings, and drawings that seem to be made of scrap materials though often involve more staid mediums such as bronze and plaster. Out of pencils and compasses (dipped in bronze and then covered with paint), for example, Pollard has fashioned sculptures of gangly birds, bony hands, dinosaurs, and elderly humans. Among the works on view in his 2007 exhibition “Nightscape” was the Romo’s Getting Ready series of collage drawings, in which broken pencils blend with the semi-abstract images drawn by them, as well as a wall drawing evocative of a landscape, made of black lipstick and resin pencils.
