ChaeWon Moon

ChaeWon Moon is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Brooklyn. Her work parodies the language of the manual and suggests non-functional instructions by painting, drawing, printmaking, and installation. Moon’s practice focuses on the experience of failure in following orders; lack of function can happen even when the user follows the order, and sometimes instruction itself interrupts understanding. The original utility is edited during the process of painting and printing, and this transfer allows the viewer to think about multiple meanings instead of a single, concrete conclusion.

She holds a BFA from Kookmin University and an MFA from Pratt Institute. Her work presented by numerous group shows in the US: 2019 North//East (CIRCA Gallery, MN) ; Mostly Fine Adults (Pfizer Building, NY) ; Reaching Into Transformation (CP Project Space, NY) ; Jet Lag (Steuben Gallery, NY) ; 2018 Jaceb Tivc (Pfizer Building, NY) ; Uncanny Valley Ranch (Pfizer Building, NY) ; 2015 Limbo (Kookmin Art Gallery, Seoul).
