Daan Paans

Daan Paans’s photographic work investigates the concept of time — past, present, and future — impacting our outlook on the world. With human’s inability to control time and to obtain immortality, Paans is interested in those who try to defy this inescapable reality by extending their human lifespan to extreme lengths. Through anthropologic visits he has captured five different movements with stories illustrating occult belief from the past and scientific hope for the future. His long-term photographic project integrates text and footage to confront time and finality.

Recently Paans has displayed his work at Red Hook Lab in New York, Beaconsfield Gallery Vauxhall in London, the Bienne Festival of Photography in Switzerland, Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam, Get Fed Art Fair in Arnhem, Netherlands, and Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art in St. Petersburg. Paans produced two art books “Letters From Utopia” and “Perhaps it Might Be Said Rightly.” He has received the Longlist Dutch Doc Award and Foam Talent Award. He has acquired grants including the Mondriaan Fonds Project Investering, Mondriaan Fonds Bijdrage Werkbudget, Fonds BKVB Startstipendium, and BKKC Publication Bijdrage.
