Elizabeth Newman

Elizabeth Newman’s work playfully analyzes the status and position of the artist in society, making direct comment regarding negative institutional influence. Using a variety of materials including textiles like fabric, canvas, and silk, along with print, the artist addresses questions of representation and subjectivity. She offers articulate reflections on philosophy, theory, politics, art, artists, aesthetics, and every life concerns. 


Newman has exhibited extensively in Australia, including solo exhibitions at Neon Parc, Ocular Lab, MIR11, TCB and CLUBSproject, among others. Group exhibitions include Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne, the 2006 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, Australian Experimental Art Foundation, Margaret Lawrence Gallery in Melbourne, and University Art Museum at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.
