Francis Upritchard

Francis Upritchard’s work is rooted in cultural history, rituals, and storytelling - from the 1960’s hippie movement and psychedelia to gothic folklore and beyond. Often re-interpreting history through playfully imagined 'found’ artifacts or curios, she engages the viewer’s imagination in all manner of weird and wonderful momento mori.

Her solo exhibitions include Kate MacGarry, London (2014), Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2013), MIMOCA, Japan, (2013) and Anton Kern Gallery, New York (2012). In 2009 Upritchard represented New Zealand at the 53rd Venice Biennale.
