Giorgio Bompadre

Giorgio Bompadre (Ancona, 1929 - Urbino 2005) Self-taught, avid reader and writing enthusiast. In December 1949 he arrived in Urbino to attend the Institute of Art; he graduated in Lithography three years later. From 1951 to 1955 he taught in the municipal school of Disegno in Offida. In his early works the influence of his teacher Arnoldo Battistoni is clear. In 1965 he was commissioned to teach at the Urbino book school. and in the meantime his practical engraving is refined, so much so that he was awarded in 1957 with the Golfo La Spezia Award, and with many others in Italy and abroad. Between 1961 and 1964, Bompadre creates ever less figurative and white engravings, aligning with the trend that took place in the sixties in Lucio Fontana, Pietro Manzoni and Kasimir Malevich. His style continues to evolve and to be infected by the trends of the Milanese environments launched by Santomaso, Guidi, Pomodoro. He took part in the Biennials and Quadrennial exhibitions in the 1960s, followed by an intense exhibition activity in Italy and abroad.
