Handiwirman Saputra

Handiwirman Saputra works with objects and found objects, generating sculptures and paintings that throw artistic pretension to the wind. His anti-aesthetic tendency in painting translates into detail-oriented and neat compositions depicting his assemblages. These still lifes are interpretations of his objects, and heighten the beauty of their simplicity. Saputra is interested in his viewer’s perception and mutating the way in which they might digest his works. His work with the Jendela Art Group, a collective based in Yogyakarta, similarly strives to balance personal context and interest in the ordinary. Saputra has exhibited at institutions including Singapore Tyler Print Institute, Singapore, Indonesia National Gallery, Jakarta, Singapore Art Museum, Singapore, Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai, and Soka Art Center, Beijing, among other venues.
