J. Parker Valentine

J. Parker Valentine received her MFA in 2007 from the San Francisco Art Institute. She lives and works in Brooklyn. Her gestural drawings, films, and photographs reference her interest in mythology, filtered through personal experience. In a 2008 exhibition at the Lisa Cooley Gallery in New York, Valentine showed an untitled 16 mm film that featured a series of symbolic moments, each connected to the earth. Also on view were several intimate, enigmatic photographs and curtainlike sculptures that framed the doors and windows of the gallery, transforming sunshine into dim light.
