Jedediah Caesar is often more interested in manipulating and experimenting with materials than in actually creating sculptures from them. In his installations, Caesar slices through masses of resins, metals, woods, and clay, then pieces together clean-cut fragments to form abstract compositions. Caesar’s process brings a careful attention to the objecthood of the many materials that go into his work. “Encasing everything in resin puts things at the same material level, but reveals a pre-functional object materiality,” says the artist, “It’s like destroying the meaning of a thing and reengaging with another meaning of it at the same time.”  The artist exhibited at the Whitney Biennial in 2008 and major museums like the New Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
