Jimmy Baker

Jimmy Baker's paintings integrate traditions of the past (from Rembrandt to Turner to Photorealism) with ominous emblems of the present and future: iPods, jet planes, and fluorescent-lit hooded figures. Installations often include other objects, like a cell phone showing a looped video of Saddam Hussein’s execution.

Baker has exhibited throughout the United States and Europe, with recent solo shows at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Roberts & Tilton in Los Angeles, and New Galerie de France in Paris. His work has been featured in many publications, private collections, as well as permanent collections at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Zabludowicz Art Trust London, Taschen Foundation Berlin, Cincinnati Art Museum, Columbus Museum of Art, and Progressive Insurance Collection.
