John Andrew is a “sculptor” who uses material, relationship to the body, and language acquisition as his primary mediums. Acting as a director, he selects mediums and methods to be cast in individual roles. Each of these elements provides a plethora of possible pieces to shape into objects, images, and information. These composed individual units act as vehicles with a balance between formalist structure and interpretive openness. All are used as a vocabulary to create a dialogue and to fill in the gaps between person and object.
Andrew has shown his works in a number of venues including David Zwirner, New York, Greene Exhibitions, Los Angeles, Eli Ping Gallery, New York, LMCC Arts Center, Governors Island, New York, Denniston Hill, Woodridge, NY and Annie Wharton, Los Angeles, among others.
