The artistic practice of Laura Jiménez Galvis takes place within the intersection between drama and theatre, museums and photography. Through the exercise of capturing sections, fragments, and details of objects found in art collections and natural history museums, she explores notions of change, continuous transformation, and the tension between opposites (order and collapse, loss and restoration, permanent and transitory, nature and artifice.) By manually, analogically, and digitally manipulating the resulting paper prints (with paper, scissors, glue, and photoshop) she converts these photographs into new and uncanny objects which stand, as a prop or character, in the theatrical sets, artist's books, works on fabric, and collages that constitute her body of work. These works often cross the boundaries of the photographic and enter the realm of drama and the stage, a subject to which Jiménez Galvis has been connected since early childhood.

In 2015 Galvis obtained a Special Mention after being included in the Promising Emerging Artists Selection from Christie's Education New York. Her work has been shown in ArtBo International Art Fair of Bogotá, Centro Colombo Americano in Bogotá, LIA LAB in Bogotá, Casa Hoffmann in Bogotá (with the support of Instituto Ramón Lull and DIBINA the Figital Büro o International Art in Barcelona,) Daily News Building in New York, and was including in the 1st Biennial Survey of work by New York MFA students and recent graduates in New York. Her work has been written about in the ArtBo Catalogue, Esquire Magazine, El Espectador in Colombia, Other People's Pixels, and has appeared in Revista Matera in Columbia and MDMA Magazine in the Dominican Republic among other Publications.
