Multimedia artist Lia Chavez has built an accomplished, rigorous body of work founded upon her keen interest in the aesthetic characteristics of deep consciousness and the light therein.

Whether meditating in the caves of the Himalayas, presenting artwork at the Tate, or collaborating with cognitive neuroscientists in the lab, she is passionate about crafting compelling encounters with physical light that open the door to deeper forms of enlightenment. Her critically-acclaimed performances and light installations have harnessed the power of emerging science and technology to ask probing questions about the nature of mystical experience, scientific discovery, and the timeless challenge of balancing mental awareness with embodied existence.

Chavez has been the subject of presentations in venues as diverse as the Venice Biennale, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and pastoral landscape in eastern Long Island. Recent solo exhibitions and performances include Inner Form (2017) and Light Body (2016) at the Farm of Isabella Rossellini; The Octave of Visible Light: A Meditation Nightclub (2015) presented by Art Production Fund in Las Vegas; Carceri (2014) at Two Rams, New York; Tumult (2014) presented by House of the Nobleman, London; and Luminous Objects at the 2014 SPRING/BREAK Art Show. She is the recipient of major commissions from The Armory Show, Art Production Fund, and The Affirmation Arts Fund. She has been a Fellow in Visual Cultures at Oxford University and received her MA in Photography and Master of Philosophy in Visual Art from Goldsmiths College, University of London.
