Nick Ghiz

Nick Ghiz is best known for paintings that inhabit a space of vivid and playful imagination. Ghiz typically works with acrylic paint, creating small-scale works on wood panels. Originally trained as a sculptor, he renders his paintings with meticulous and almost chisel-like brushstrokes. His paintings depict fantastical scenarios between humans and exotic animals, often in the context of a dense cityscape, manipulating scale and perspective. The moments captured in Ghiz’s paintings are arrested and unexplained—lending a sense of mystery to the strange and circus-like aspects of city life that they capture.

Ghiz is a recipient of a McCall Foundation grant. His work has been shown in both group and solo exhibitions at the Sculpture Center and MoMA PS1.
