Nicolas Gadbois

Nicolas Gadbois is a contemporary painter and public artist living in Kansas City Missouri. He earned his MFA in painting from Vermont College of Fine Arts. In 2013 he completed a large public art mural commission for the University of Los Alamos in New Mexico. In 2008 he completed his first public art commission for the Tri Cities Cancer Center in Kennewick, Washington. He has exhibited his paintings in New York, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Santa Fe and Kansas City. His work is included in private, corporate, and university collections. Gadbois' abstract paintings are concerned with the visual language of patterning. Although the works appear nonobjective they are based on subjects of real phenomena such as architectural sites, city DNA, boundary lines, and manmade objects. The work combines a rule-based system with an intuitive approach to painting. The patterning serves as a kind of structure in which Gadbois explores the act of painting.
