Richard Wright

Working in response to the architecture of space within both temporary and permanent contexts, Wright’s practice utilizes a unique complexity of pattern, motif and form. Transient in nature, his paintings in paint and gold leaf applied directly onto the surface of a wall or ceiling are almost always removed when the exhibition comes to an end. This feeling of impermanence heightens the viewer's moment of engagement with the work, as Wright creates an experience that unfolds through the act of looking. Wright's practice expands to a range of works on paper and site-specific glass works, which explore the artist’s distinctive and meticulous response to drawing and perspective.

Wright won the Turner Prize in 2009. He has produced permanent commissions for Tate Britain, London and Rjiksmuseum, Amsterdam in 2013. Born in London; he lives and works in Glasgow.
