Ryan Hancock

Hometown Flintstone, Georgia
Lives and Works New York, NY

Inspired by the quiet subtleties of mid-century still-life painter Giorgio Morandi, New York-based artist and musician Ryan Hancock creates photographic images that attempt to “show the predicament of something infinite being bound up in something temporal.” Throughout his career, Hancock has served as art director for various music videos, worked as a sculpture fabricator, run a small custom cabinet and furniture shop, been a night clerk in a convenience store, done door-to-door sales, been farmhand, and driven a horse-and-buggy.  He has also served as cinematographer for Flex Is Kings, a documentary about Brooklyn street dance that premiered at TriBeca Film Festival in 2013, and as camera-op on BKLYN FLEX, a series combining fantasy and documentary in the lives of Brooklyn Flex dancers.  Hancock's work has be shown at several exhibitions including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Atlanta, and has been published internationally in various art and culture magazines such as Oh Comely, F5, and VUU Collective's Super Special. In 2013 he was awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Photography.
