Sarah Peters

An expert in traditional sculptural techniques, Sarah Peters has spent over a decade working in wax, clay, and bronze, creating modestly sized sculptures whose scale belies the magnitude of their presence. Forging a link between ancient, art historical sculpture and her own contemporary sensibilities, Peters' portraits are haunting caricatures that are both noble and absurd. The beautiful and intricate formal articulations are the products of Peters' mastery of craft, while the distorted, exaggerated features and geometric abstractions are the products of her absurdist humor.

Peters has received solo exhibitions at Halsey McKay Gallery, New York (2017); Eleven Rivington, New York (2015); 4 AM, New York (2015); Edward Winkleman Gallery, New York (2007, 2010); and John David Gallery, New York (2013). Her work has been featured in group shows internationally. She is the recipient of awards and residencies from John Michael Kohler, Wisconsin (2011); NYFA (2011); The Fine Arts Work Center, Massachusetts (2010); and the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Space Program, New York (2008). Her work has been reviewed and featured in publications such as The New York Times, Art in America, Artforum, and The Brooklyn Rail.
