Scott Treleaven

Scott Treleaven’s Romantic, expressive prints, paintings, and photographs explore the use of gesture and image as a lexicon for articulating identity and memory. Treleaven’s tough photographs of virile nude men adorned with collaged flowers or bones evoke votive images of saints and contemporary fashion photography. Images such as cara frater (2004) include nods to Art Nouveau with its blend of lithe figures, complicated patterning, and washed out colors. Treleaven’s work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Weatherspoon Art Museum at the University of North Carolina, MoMA PS1, the Museum of Contemporary Candian Art in Toronto, and at La Biennale de Montréal.
