Stella Farwell
Stella Farwell’s artwork encompasses themes such as travelling, the environment, and health. In her work she uses a variety of materials including hand made paper, acrylic, metal, and stone. Farwell combines dynamic shapes and vibrant colors in order to create emotional impact. In her show “Transitions,” she raised awareness about ovarian cancer, which often goes undetected until the disease has progressed into the late stages. In relation to her approach to the subject matter she'd explained, “I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable—but if I can help one person not experience this disease, I'm going to do it." Her work is hopeful, yet also realistic, as seen in Ups and Downs, which represents the emotional roller coaster one experiences with cancer.
Farwell's artwork is in private and corporate collections.It has been in various juried, group, and solo exhibitions, as well as in the Madden Museum in Colorado. It has also been featured in local and national publications. Two pieces are in the permanent collection at BIG ARTS in Schein Hall, and the Captiva Civic Association has a permanent piece hanging in its Board Room.
