Thomas Fougeirol

Thomas Fougeirol’s practice is characterized by an exploration of notions of absence and disappearance through the mediums of painting, drawing and photography. In his previous works, Fougeirol often replaced the human body with objects and detritus signifying a human presence, relying on the subtle implication of the body rather than its physical reality. These traces and imprints of human existence float in emptiness and border on abstraction.

Fougeirol has shown in a number of galleries and institutions over the course of is career including, Praz-Delavallade, Paris, Galerie Saint-Séverin, Paris, Galerie Guigon, Paris, Centre d’Art Présence Van Gogh, St Rémy de Provence, FR, and the Fundaçion Antonio Perez, Cuenca, Spain. Group shows include Centre for Contemporary Art FUTURA, Prague, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen, Rouen, and Musée d’Art Moderne de Troyes, Troyes, among others. In 1998 the artist won a Coprim Foundation Award.
