Angelbert Metoyer

Angelbert Metoyer's work explores what he calls the "hidden language of religion." A painter, sculptor, performance, video and sound artist, he is interested in ancestral memory and what it means to be human. He is fascinated with time, memory, symbolism, quantum physics, and cosmology and considers his art to be a personal vision quest and an investigation into the human experience.

Metoyer's paintings are full of information—words, numbers, squiggles, cross-outs—yet their effect is serene and cosmic. His childlike drawing style is reminiscent of religious folk art, lending the works a simple spirituality. Above all, Metoyer's art hopes to promote peace and understanding through a common visual language that crosses cultural, racial, and social barriers.
