Annette Lemieux

Born in Virginia in 1857, Annette Lemieux emerged in the 1980s along with with the other "picture theory" artists such as Barbara Kruger, David Salle, Cindy Sherman, and Richard Prince. Her work is both minimalist and in conversation with multipe forms of popular culture from the forties and fifties. Inspired by John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg, Lemieux seeks to close the gap between life and art. Notably, she also resists the market-driven temptation to develop a "signature style," and has said that her exhibitions look more like group shows.

Lemieux has exhited internationally, with work in the permanent collections of institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Whitney Museum, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. She is a Senior Lecturer on Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University
